Patience please, I'm working on it. As I suspected, it's turning out to be a much more involved task than Part 1, requiring me to connect the dots between events in not one but two major lawsuits, a minor lawsuit (the short-lived but emblematic Chisholm vs. Hayden), another 2009 bankruptcy case (800 Bourbon Street, a New Orleans business also known as "Oz"), plus alot of other online and offline shenanigans to boot...and then arrange them all (and their associated documents, quotes and images) in chronological order. So I beg everyone's indulgence, it's coming. It may take a while yet, but it's coming, I promise!
And since there hasn't been anything new filed in any of the cases in a while, I thought I'd fill in this lull in the action with an interesting and thought-provoking little "background information" post, I guess you could call it.
If you Google this exact phrase in quotes - "ONE MIGHTY WEEKEND - JOHNNY CHISHOLM, PROPERTIES, INC." - you'll make a fascinating (IMO) discovery: Domains, lots of domains, all owned by Chisholm:

I've done Whois searches on a handful of these, and it appears most were registered in 2005 - 2007, the heyday of One Mighty Weekend, a time when we can perhaps rightly speculate he possessed an overabundance of confidence (or, as some would put it, hubris). You can see not only ones registered with "Paris" in mind (which as we know, turned out to be his undoing), but apparently, even more ambitious schemes were later envisioned, for the west coast (www.gaydaysdisneyland.com, www.gaydisneyanaheim.com) and China (www.reunioneventshongkong.com, onemightyweekendhongkong.com, www.gaydisneyhongkong.com, www.gaydayshongkong.com, www.gaydayhongkong.com). It looks as though he may even had in mind giving Rich Campbell at Atlantis a run for his money (www.gaydisneycruise.com, www.onemightycruise.com) and had some other odd ideas in the pipeline as well (www.gaydaysweddings.com).
And as we know, there were others in the Chisholm entourage who in 2007 possessed these delusions of grandeur as well:
"...one can not help but focus on the hints that Chisholm's One Mighty Weekend, formerly Gay Day Orlando, is headed globally in nearly every direction..."Interesting question to ponder: Can the fervent possession and/or constant reinforcement of delusions of this nature empower people to think they can constantly lie with impunity, and/or flagrantly break the law (theft, fraud, slander, etc...) without being caught...all in furtherance of these delusions?
"Johnny Chisholm proves once again what many have already determined...he IS the King of Circuit and a student of the "philosophical school of Circuit reinvention." He has the dreams and ability to bring back the parties we nearly lost only a few short years ago due to greed, mismanagement, and pessimism. The quiet, polite and honorable Johnny Chisholm has once again taken the Circuit, and those of us who follow the Circuit, to a whole new level. And the world is Johnny Chisholm's oyster!"
"The Circuit is still alive, changing, and growing in part because of the innovation, optimism and hard work by Chisholm and his entire team...The Circuit anxiously awaits Johnny Chisholm's next dream."
"No one is surprised these days at the magic coming from the man many describe as the undisputed King of Circuit...a One Mighty Party which will eventually arrive at the doors of countries around the world."
It's certainly a theory worthy of thought, I think, in that it may help to explain some of the almost otherwise inexplicable behavior we'll see in How We Got Here, Part 2.
Some people obviously would say and do anything for a free VIP party ticket, a comp's hotel room, or a sponsorship deal to the big party.
ReplyDeleteThe more we learn about all this One Mighty Johnny Chisholm mess from the last few years, the more we realize what what total creeps the guys doing his PR are and always will be.
Jim, great work !!!
ReplyDeleteYou may also wish to have a look at the bankruptcy filings for Loiuisiana Interests (that's the Oz in New Orleans corporate name) and Emerald City of Pensacola (that's the Emerald City corporate name, Chisholm's club in Pensacola). Both in the Northern District of Florida bankruptcy court.
The 800 Bourbon bankruptcy filing is for just the building in New Orleans, which contains the ruins of Oz.
I think you guys have a pretty big agenda to ruin the parties and the gaydays weekend. You spit out so much hate and nastiness. This isn't about Gay Days or justice or even Johnny Chisholm. It's about being pissed off at your competition. With the exception of the problems in 2009, all of Chisholm's events were more fun than I've ever had. Where were you then? I'm just saying, you people are hurting anyone's chances to succeed in 2010.
ReplyDelete"I'm just saying, you people are hurting anyone's chances to succeed in 2010."
ReplyDeleteI reject this premise entirely. It's like someone in 1945 saying the Nuremburg Trials would be a bad idea, in that they would hurt Europe's chance for recovery in 1946.
Which of course is patently absurd.
There is no evidence whatsoever anything written here is negatively impacting 2010 in any way. In fact, quite the opposite is occuring: if you go to Mark Baker's new Facebook fan page, the energy and enhusiasm over the recent "regime change" is palpable. It looks like 2010 may reach record numbers, as I haven't see this much excitement over a particular promoter and/or an upcoming promotion in years. Some choice quotes:
"Talk about exactly what Disney needs, especially after what happened last year, a does of Mark Baker. Totally counting on you man to make it happen."
"I have been to Disney EVERY year for the past 9 years. I didn't go this past year because it started to get crappy and the fun was lost. WELCOME BACK MARK! Now Disney will feel like it did when I first started going! THANK YOU!"
"It is So great to have you back at it throwin the Best parties! This is Gonna Be a great year!"
...and last but not least:
"Looking forward to being there!"
So you see, you're entire premise has just been disproven. If anything, this blog and others like it which are devoted to publishing the unvarnished truth about what happened in 2009, are giving people hope that it is no longer possible for a promoter or a circuit web site to lie to them in 2010, and get away with it.
Which leads, of course, to renewed faith in the circuit, in particular the unprecedented giddiness towards an upcoming party weekend we are seeing with Mark Baker.
And you know another good thing about honest reporting? It seems to be infectious, as seen by this other recent comment on the Mark Baker fan page:
"Joey Benitez: im guessing let's go play is doing typhoon again so why bother with a competing party. beach ball luau was such a flop..."
So you see Anonymous 5:11pm, everything is looking up up up! :o) Therefore, I suggest you should start be less bitter and negative against those of us who are trying to rebuild the weekend, and support the efforts to root out the last elements of corruption that caused the disaster of 2009.
Are the venues being advertised by Mark Baker actually contracted yet? You do remember the World Vibe parties that sold tickets for memorial day weekend, advertised djs, and advertised in circuit noize magazine, but never happened? Or the enVibe events that Mark left high and dry also hyped by you and others? I think the public is smarter than this blog will give them credit for. Your campaign only hurts the Orlando weekend and neglects to be fair about others failures as well.
ReplyDeleteBrian,
ReplyDelete1) I don't know if they're contracted, AND, I don't know that they're not contracted. I DO know that tickets arn't on sale yet, however, thus making the whole question kind of pointless.
2) Yeah World Vibe. It never did cause a scandal, did it? My impressions as to the reasons it didn't were a) the promoters and advertisers were honest about the situation; and b) the public didn't seem to lose any money, when all was said and done.
Compare and contrast OMW, where Chisholm and JustCircuit literally lied through their teeth right up to the day of the event (and beyond), and droves of circuit goers, venues and vendors got financially shafted as a result.
3) As to EnVibe, according to Mark Baker's Twitter:
"despite all the rumors, I am not affiliated with EnVibe. That belongs to Steve Milo, follow him at: http://twitter.com/EnVibeOrlando
4:35 PM May 13th from web"
And I don't recall ever "hyping" EnVibe personally. And in any case, would it matter if I did? I'm not sure what you're point is here.
" Your campaign only hurts the Orlando weekend and neglects to be fair about others failures as well."
If you look at the "mission statement" of this blog, you'll see the reason I don't talk about other events in the main posts is because this blog was designed to only talk about one event:
"Welcome to The Forest Moon of Endor, a blog devoted to covering the extraordinary 2009 collapse, via lawsuits and bankruptcy, of what was once (arguably) the premier circuit weekend in the world: One Mighty Weekend in Orlando, Florida"
I don't really mind going on digressions like this in the comments, however. Especially when they can be illuminating as to OMW by comparison, as in this case.
And as to the whole "hurting Orlando" talking point, it's been disproven. As I stated above:
"I reject this premise entirely. It's like someone in 1945 saying the Nuremburg Trials would be a bad idea, in that they would hurt Europe's chance for recovery in 1946."
Jim, do you know whether the venue for the "Phoenix Rising" party is contracted for yet? Or, for that matter, whether the djs for that party are contracted and signed?
ReplyDeleteWhat's the Phoenix Rising party?
ReplyDeleteWell, since I don't know anything about this party, and no one here seems to know about it either, I guess I can truthfully say "no, I don't know if the venue has contracted" (wherever that may be) and "no, I don't know if the DJs have been signed" (whoever they may be).
ReplyDeleteNot the same crowd - the original Phoenix Rising boys and parties were run by hot cool guys. It was a super exclusive ticket. Sadly, things have obviously changed. Love ya Susan, but no thanks to a party put on by that crowd.
ReplyDeletePhoenix Rising another South Florida New Years Circuit extravaganza...let's not even bring it up...I like sticking with the original topic of this blog...go out and create your own blogs if you question an event or party...great job Jim!
ReplyDeleteSince Shane posts to this board under a fake name and sometimes his own, I ask Shane and justcircuit.com:
ReplyDeleteExactly how much money have you donated to the two charities you named as beneficiaries of the Phoenix Rising parties New Years Day (over a month ago) ???
You post all these bullshit letters to Winter Party (as if they would want you!) and in support of Peter R (a turd) , but you don't have the conscious to show us exactly what you donated to Broward House, et. al whose good names justcircuit.com used to market it's event. (which we hear was not well attended) Regardless, we are waiting for you to post a letter addressed to these charities on justcircuit.com showing the amounts you donated to these charities. I am sure those who might want to work with you in the future, or who are are doing so now, would be VERY interested. Another post I saw described you guys as the goons of the circuit - please prove us wrong in this case. It aint right to market your event in the name of a charity and then do nothing to support them after the fact.
We are waiting.
ref:
justcircuit.com, Shane Rogers, Broward House, Phoenix Rising,
Don't know if or why Shane would want to post here under a fake name, as I've gleefully and enthusiastically approved every comment he's sent in...
ReplyDeleteBut in any case, yes I've been hearing the same thing...Broward House's good name got used for this event, and then they were stiffed.
Of course there wasn't much to donate in the first place, as this "Phoenix Rising" party was a pretty notorious flop. I've heard from sources close to Susan Morabito that only 30 or so people attended (a fact one can verify for themselves by perusal of the photographs of the event).
That's undoubtably the real reason the financial powers-at-be behind JustCircuit decided in mid-January to pull the plug on their planned "Five Ring Circus" event this year, a party designed to further their destructive grudge-match with Winter Party (it was actually advertised in their penultimate JustCircuit Mag, AFTER Winter Party had banished them...making the current claim they had dropped the party so as not to compete with a charity ring hollow indeed).
Last years Five Ring Circus was hugely disappointing, and combined with the calamity Phoenix Rising was, it was pretty clear a JustCircuit event competing unsanctioned with Winter Party would have been a total disaster.
